Grated Cocunut - 1 Cup
Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
Urdhal - 3 teaspoon
Red Chillies - 6
Hing - A pinch
Tamarind - A small seed size
Oil - 1 teaspoon
Salt - To Taste

  • Pour the oil in the pan and add the mustard seeds and when the mustard seeds begins to sputter add the urdhal and red chillies and a pinch of hing.
  • When the urdhal changes its color to red add the cocunut and fry it till its brown.
  • Grind the above ingredients in the mixer along with tamarind and salt
  • Now the Thengai Thuvayal is ready to serve with hot rice
