Tamil New Years day falls in the month of April on 13th or 14th every year. This year its 14th April. The day is the first day of the tamil calender month "Chithirai". In Kerala state of India, they celebrate this day as "Vishu".
The Spring Season starts in the month of Chitirai where all the mango and neem trees will be full of flowers and fruits. In this wonderful occassion, the hindus will cook 6 different tasty foods like sweet, bitter,sour,salty,spice and umami
In Kerala state of India, People will celebrate "Vishu Kani Kannal" tradition. They will keep some gold, silver, jewels,mirror, bacillum,cocunut,flowers,cucumber,mangoes,rice, dhal, jaggery infront of the god and seek the blessings of God. Elderly women will wake up early that morning and will see these items and light up the kuthuvilaku and she will wake up the others in the home.
