  • Vazhaikai Podimas(Raw Banana Podimas) / Vazhakai poriyal

    Raw banana(Vazhaikai) is a common vegitable in south india, especially in the brahmin familes. I cook different recipes using vazhaikai. Vazhaikai podimas is one of the famous recipe in my family made using vazhaikai. The reason behind is the fact that we are grating the vazhaikai for this recipe and when you fry and cook the grated vazhaikai it adds a lot of taste to the poriyal. The receipe for - Vazhakkai Podimas(raw banana Podimas/poriyal) is given below. Try this and i am sure that you and your family will love this recipe.

    Ingredients:
    Raw Banana(Vazhaikaai) - 2
    Green chilli - 2
    Salt - To Taste
    Chopped Ginger - 1 teaspoon
    Curry Leaves - Few
    Grated Cocunut - 2 teaspoon

    For Seasoning:
    Oil - 1 teaspoon
    Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
    Urdhal - 1 teaspoon

    Method:
    1. Cut the raw banana(Vazhaikaai) in half and put it in a pan and add water to cook it
    2. When one side of raw banana(Vazhaikaai) turns black color, turn it to other side
    3. Take a half raw banana(Vazhaikaai) and using water try to peel the skin. When the skin is peeled, then this is the correct stage to remove the raw banana(Vazhaikaai) from flame
    4. Remove the raw banana(Vazhaikaai) from flame and allow it to cool
    5. Peel the skin of the cooked raw banana(Vazhaikaai) and grate it
    6. Add the chopped green chilli, salt, ginger, cocunut and mix it well without smashing it
    7. Heat the oil in the pan, add mustard seeds and when the mustard seeds begins to sputter add urdhal and fry till it becomes golden brown color
    8. Add the grated raw banana(Vazhaikaai) along with other ingredients and mix it well and keep it in flame for 2 mins.
    9. Remove from flame and take it in a bowl
    10. The delicious raw banana Podimas/ Vazhakai Podimas is ready to serve
