Paruppu Podi, a smooth dal powder made with dals and spices. We always maintain a minimum stock of Paruppu podi as it is very much useful to me whenI feel lazy to cook or we would like to eat something very simple. Paruppu podi can be mixed to the white rice with ghee/oil and can go well with applam (chutta applam/fried applam). As its name suggest it is made of dals and is good for health too. You can adjust the spice requirement by adding less/more red chillis. There are many variations available for this recipe and the one which I follow is given below.

Maami…can I use masoor dal instead of horse gram for making this paruppu podi?
Hi
Sorry, i have not tried with masoor dal. You can make a try to see if the taste remains the same.
Thanks
I read some where that it could be made with split dhal (pottu kadalai). But you had mentioned Thur dhal. Do both these dhals give same taste?
Hi Mami what about channa dal (kadala paruppu)
