Peerkangai(Ridge Gourd) Thugayal

Peerkangai(Ridge Gourd) Thugayal is a wonderful dish and can be prepared easily within 10mins and it is a suitable recipe when we return from long trip. This can be mixed with hot rice and can be consumed with appalam.Peerkangai(Ridge Gourd) Thugayal goes well with Milagu rasam also. The spicy, sour ridge gourd thugayal is very tasty and worth to give a try.

Mustard seeds1/2 teaspoon
Urdal2 Teaspoon
Tamarinda pinch
Oil2 Teaspoon
Grated Coconut2 Teaspoon

  1. Peel the skin of Peerkangai(Ridge Gourd) and finely chop and keep it aside
  2. In a heavy bottomed pan, add some oil and when the oil is hot add mustard seeds
  3. When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add the urdhal, chilli and grated coconut and fry till the urdhal turns golden brown color. Take this in a mixer
  4. Now add remaining oil, and add the chopped Peerkangai(Ridge Gourd) and fry until it is cooked completely
  5. Add the cooked Peerkangai(Ridge Gourd) to the mixer along with salt and turmeric and grind it to a fine paste
  6. The delicious Peerkangai(Ridge Gourd) Thugayal is ready to serve with hot rice

Hari Om...your video and method descriptions do not match? In the video you did not add mustard nor coconut in the frying step along with urad dhal?
