Occassionally i make Puli upma instead of conventional upmas. The tamarind gives a very good taste to the upma and this can be consumed with raw onion/Pickle.
Ingredients:
| RawRice | 1 Cup |
| Parboiled Rice | 1 Cup |
| Coconut | ½ |
| Red Chilli | 10 |
| Hing | ½ teaspoon |
| Tamarind | 1 small lemon size |
| Oil | ¼ Cup |
For Seasoning:
| Urdal | 1 teaspoon |
| Channa dal | 2 teaspoon |
| Curry Leaves | few |
| Mustard Seeds | ¼ teaspoon |
| Oil | 1 teaspoon |
Method:
- Soak both the rice in water for 2-3 hours.
- Soak the tamarind in water and extract the juice and keep it aside
- Drain water from the soaked rice and add this to grinder along with the red chilli, grated coconut, salt and hing
- Grind to a sooji like batter.
- To this add tamarind extract and stir it well
- In a heavy bottomed pan, add some oil and mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add the channa dal, urdal and curry leaves and fry till the dals turns golden brown color.
- To this add ground batter and keep the flame low till the oil separates from the upma
- Serve the delicious Pulimavu upma is ready to serve with raw onions




how can we make pulio upma with rice flour which we get from the shop?
ReplyDeletegood result method.soak one small size tamarind and make a solution adding one tumbler water. extract the solution.add one tumbler raw rice power{pacharisi mavu},salt,asafoitida to the tamarind solotion and make a paste{not loose}/In a thickbottommed pan add one kuzhi karandi oil, after heating add mustard seeds ,then ulundu parippu, kadalai parippu,cut green chillies and red chillies each 3 numbers, add curry leaf.to this add the paste and stir with medium flame till the paste change to small powder shape.It is time and oil consuming. After seasoning all the items , if you add the raw rice powder in the boiling tamarind water.the loose paste will not be uniform,but with lot of undai and urulais. this is the good result method. what is neededis patience
