Peoples' general tendency is to throw the skin of some of the vegetables and fruits. But actually there are lot of nutrients/minerals in many vegetables and fruits. Orange is one such fruit. The skin of orange is also rich in citrus contents and it is healthy for us. So i prepared this recipe by using the skin of orange. This Orange skin thogayal is a spicy and tangy accompaniment for any SouthIndian Main courses.

Red Chilli3
Tamarinda pinch
Bengal Gram Dal1 Tablespoon
Peppercorns1/2 teaspoon
Oil3 teaspoon

  1. Peel the skin of the orange and chop it to smaller pieces and wash it thoroughly.
  2. In a heavy bottomed pan, add the oil add chopped orange skin and fry it until it becomes soft and cooked
  3. Remove the fried orange skin and take it in a mixer
  4. Now to the remaining oil add urdal, bengal gram dal, peppercorns, red chiili, hing and fry till the urdal becomes golden brown color
  5. Add these fried ingredients to the mixer along with orange skin, salt and tamarind and grind it nicely by adding little water
  6. The mouth-watering orange skin thuvayal is ready to serve with plain rice
