Aloo Poha Recipe | Batata Poha Recipe

Aloo Poha or Batata Poha is one of the popular NorthIndian Breakfast dish especially in Gujarat and many parts of Mumbai. A simple to make breakfast. We can exclude onions in this dish and use it as a fasting (vrat) dish also. Aloo Poha/Urulaikizhangu Aval Upma/Potato Poha, a quick and delicious breakfast which we could make it 10 minutes. Aloo poha is much more tasty than simple Poha/aval upma. Evening during the evenings, we can make this wonderful dish for the children in our home. Try this and let me know your comments!!!

Aval/Poha2 Cups*
Onion1 (Optional)
Potato3 Medium size cubed
Coriander Leavesfew
SaltTo taste
Green Chilli3
Ginger1" Piece
Roasted Peanuts1 Tablespoon
Lemon1 (Extract the juice)

Ingredients for Seasoning:
Oil1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds1/2 teaspoon
Cumin seeds1/2 teaspoon

  1. Take peanuts in a mixer in a grinder and give a pulse or two to break the peanuts. Keep this aside

  2. Take green chili and ginger in a mixer jar and grind it to a nice paste. Set this ginger-green chili paste aside

  3. Take the aval (Poha) in a colander and wash it thoroughly and set that aside

  4. Keep a sauce pan in flame. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and allow it to crackle. Then add the chopped onions 

  5. Add pinch of salt and saute the onions till they are transparent. Then add the cubed potatoes to the pan

  6. Add turmeric powder and salt necessary for potato and mix well. Sprinkle little water and cook the potatoes till they are tender and soft

  7. When the potatoes are cooked, add washed poha and mix gently. Add turmeric powder, salt, green ccilli-ginger paste and mix gently

  8. Add milk, crushed peanuts and lemon juice and mix well. Finally garnish with coriander leaves and mix once and switch off the flame

  9. Delicious Aloo Poha (Batata Poha) ready to serve!

Sought after Maharashtrian dish!! For tadka, i just do not use urad dhal and channadhal as it steals away the authentic flavour of a Marathi dish.. but instead use groundnuts ....

As usual your recipes are simply awesome....
