Aloo Poha/Urulaikizhangu Aval Upma/Potato Poha, a quick and delicious breakfast which we could make it 10 minutes. Aloo poha is much more tasty than aimple Poha/aval upma. Evening during the evenings, we can make this wonderful dish for the children in our home. Try this and let me know your comments!!!

Preparation Time5 mins
Cooking Time 10 mins

Aval/Poha1 Cup
Green Chilli2
Turmeric Powder1/2 teaspoon
Curry Leavesfew
SaltTo taste
Potato2 medium size/1 large size

Ingredients for Seasoning:
Oil1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds1 teaspoon
Urid seeds1 teaspoon
Chana dal1 teaspoon

  1. Take the aval/poha in a vessel/bowl and sprinkle some water and mix well. Keep this aside for 5 minutes

  2. Finely chop the onions and green chillies and keep it aside

  3. Boil the potatoes and peel the skin and smash it nicely and keep it aside

  4. Heat a pan, add oil. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add channa dal and urid dal and fry till it turns golden brown color

  5. Add chopped onions, green chillies, turmeric and curry leaves and fry till the onions turn transparent. Add little salt to cook the onions evenly

  6. Now add the cooked potatoes and mix well

  7. Finally add poha/aval and required salt and mix them all well. 

  8. Keep in medium flame for 3 minutes and remove from flame

  9. The yummy Aloo Poha is ready to serve

  1. Sought after Maharashtrian dish!! For tadka, i just do not use urad dhal and channadhal as it steals away the authentic flavour of a Marathi dish.. but instead use groundnuts ....

    As usual your recipes are simply awesome....
