Kathirikaai Poricha Gotsu (Brinjal Stew) is a perfect instant yummy side dish for Pongal. Always I prefer to do Venn Pongal with Kathirikaai Poricha Gotsu (Brinjal Stew) and the combination is wonderful and best breakfast dish to treat our family and friends.

Brinjal5-6 medium sized
Moong dal1/4 Cup
Turmeric1/4 teaspoon
Coriander Leaves1 tablespoon chopped
Saltto taste

For Grinding:
Red chilli2
Coriander seeds1 tablespoon
Channa dal2 teaspoon
Urid dal2 teaspoon
Grated Coconut1 tablespoon
Oil1 teaspoon

For Seasoning:
Oil1 teaspoon
Split Urid dal1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds1 teaspoon
Curry Leavesfew

  1. Pressure cook the moong dal and mash it and keep it aside
  2. Wash and Chop the brinjals to small cubes and soak it in water and keep it aside

  3. Heat a pan and dry fry the grinding ingredients except grated coconut and when the dals turn golden brown color, remove from flame and add it to mixer

  4. Grind the dals to a nice powder and add grated coconut to the mixer. Grind it again to a nice powder

  5. Heat the pan and add oil, when the oil is hot, add mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add split urid dal and fry till the dals turn golden brown color. Add curry leaves and fry for 10 seconds

  6. Add chopped brinjals and toss them in high flame for 2 minutes

  7. Now add turmeric, salt and little water and allow it to cook till they are soft and tender

  8. Once the brinjals are cooked, add mashed dal and ground powder and mix well. Adjust the water level and keep in flame for 5 minutes till the gotsu gets boiled

  9. Garnish with coriander leaves and remove from flame

  10. Serve the yummy Kathirikaai Poricha Gotsu (Brinjal Stew) with hot venn pongal
