Milagushyam | Molagushyam, a healthy vegetable and lentil curry that is usually served with hot steaming rice in many parts of kerala. We can make this dish with spinach, cabbage or mixed vegetables. I always prefer mixed vegetable to make this yummy dish more healthy. Generally, I see many people using coconut also, just to make it more healthy, I have skipped the coconut and added only a teaspoon of coconut oil for seasoning so that we would have the same flavour. Thurdal1/2 cup*
Raw Banana1/2 
Peas1 tablespoon
Turmeric1/4 teaspoon
SaltTo Taste
* 1 Cup Capacity = 250ml
For Grinding:
Coconut Oil1/2 teaspoon
Pepper1 teaspoon
Red Chilli2

For Seasoning:
Coconut Oil1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds1 teaspoon
Split uriddal1 teaspoon
HingA Pinch
Curry LeavesFew


  1. Wash and chop the vegetables to small cubes. Pressure cook the dal and keep it aside

  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the pepper and red chillies and allow it to cool off. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, add the vegetables along with turmeric and cook them till they are tender and are completely cooked

  3. While the vegetables are being cooked, take the fried pepper and red chilli to the mixer  and grind it to a nice paste

  4. Add the ground masala to the cooked vegetables and allow it to boil for another 5 minutes. Finally add mashed dal and mix well and keep in flame till they boil well. 

  5. Heat another pan with oil and add mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add spilt urid dal and fry till they are golden brown color and finally add curry leaves and hing and fry them for another second and remove from flame. Add these seasoned ingredients to the milagushyam and mix well and remove from flame

  6. The yummy and healthy Milagushyam | Molagushyam is now ready to serve with hot rice
