Beans Masala Rice








Beans Masala Rice, a yummy, tasty and easy to make rice variety. This would be a perfect meal to get the kids have beans and intake protein easily.
Beans Masala Rice, a simple, mild but delicious rice made with beans and spices. This is a no-onion no-garlic rice variety. In this Beans Masala Rice, instead of adding store bought masala powders, we are going to roast the spices and grind it to powder and use this fresh powder as the spice for this Masala Rice. Many of the kids give us a hard time eating veggies. Making this Beans Masala rice for the lunch box is the best way to make the kids eat the veggies.
Tips for making Beans Masala Rice:
- Wash and soak rice for 20 mins. This will make the rice cook faster with less water.
- We can use any regular white rice like Ponni rice, sona masoori, basmati etc.
- While dry roasting spices, make sure to add sesame seeds at the end. They tend to roast so quickly and if we add first with rest of ingredients it may get burnt.
- If you like, you can also add some peanuts while roasting or we can add peanuts while tempering.
- Ghee gives a rich flavor to the rice. If you are vegan, replace with oil.
- We can also use a pressure cooker to cook this rice. Follow all the steps and after adding water, salt and coriander leaves close the cooker and cook in low flame for 15 mins. Allow the pressure to release naturally.
- Relish with any Raita or stir-fry veggies.

Ingredients
- 1 cup Raw Rice 1 Cup - 250ml
- ½ cup French Beans Chopped to 2" piece
- ½ cup Broad Beans Chopped to 2" piece
- 1 tsp Salt Adjust as needed
- ¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
- 2 cups Water
- 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves For Garnishing
For Grinding
- Cinnamon (Pattai) 1" Piece
- 4 Cloves (Krambu / Lavang)
- 1 tbsp Coriander Seeds
- 2 Red Chili
- 1 tsp Peppercorns
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 tbsp Sesame seeds
For Tempering
- 2 tbsp Ghee (Clarified butter)
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 tsp Fennel Seeds
- Few Curry Leaves
Instructions
Soaking Process
- Wash the rice twice or thrice and soak in fresh water for 20 mins.
Preparing Grinding Ingredients
- Dry roast all the grinding ingredients excluding sesame seeds till you get a nice aroma and then add the sesame seeds and allow it to sputter and then switch off the flame. Allow these roasted grinding ingredients to cool down.
Grinding Process
- Take all the roasted ingredients to the mixer jar and grind it to a smooth powder.
Tempering Process
- Heat ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds and fennel seeds and allow it to sputter. Add curry leaves and sauté for few mins.
Stir-Fry Veggies
- Add broad beans and beans and stir-fry the veggies in high flame for 3-4 mins. Add turmeric powder and ground spice powder and mix well.
Cook with Rice
- Add rice and sauté the rice. Add water and salt and bring it to boil. Also add coriander leaves and keep the pan open and cook in high flame till all the water are absorbed. Then keep the flame low and cover the pan and cook for 10-15 mins.
Serving Time
- Serve the delicious Beans Masala Rice with curd or raitha and enjoy the healthy meal!

Can we do this rice in cooker
yes we can surely do it in cooker. We can avoid putting whistle and cover that whistle hole with a tumbler and pressure cook for about 8 mins in low flame
