Beet Peas Pulao is an easy one pot meal prepared with nutrition rich beetroot, peas and spices. Beetroot is a nutritional rice vegetable. But many kids don't like to eat beetroot because of its bright red color. Beetroot Peas Pulao is one way to make kids love beetroot and enjoy the dish. Quick and easy to make rice variety with the richness of beetroot along with Pulao spices.

Beetroot Pulao can be made using more than one ways

  1. Stove Top Method  - This recipe is made using this method. After tempering, we add the rice and water in the pan and cook directly. This way we get fluffy rice and tasty pulao
  2. Using Pressure Cooker - Soak the rice for about 15 minutes. Once the tempering is done, add the rice along with 1 ½ cup water and pressure cook on low-medium flame for about 2 whistles
  3. Using Instant Pot - In the Sauté mode, add oil and complete sautéing of the spices. Then add the  beetroot, green peas, coriander powder, turmeric powder, chilly powder and give it a mix. Switch off the sauté mode. Now add the rice, 11/2 cups water, enough salt and cook on manual high for 5 minutes and release pressure after 5 to 6 minutes.

Beetroot Pulao is an easy one pot meal with goodness of Beetroot and flavored with spices. It takes less than 30 minutes to prepare. It is perfect for the lunch box. This can be served with Raita.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Basmati Rice

Vegetables

  • 1 nos Beetroot Medium size, chopped
  • 2 tablespoon green peas
  • 1 nos. onion Medium size, sliced

Spices

  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 2 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt adjust to your taste

For Tempering

  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 nos Bay Leaf
  • 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
  • 2 nos Cloves
  • 2 nos Cardamom Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Peppercorns

Instructions 

Preparation

  • Wash and Soak the rice for 15mins
  • Chop the beetroots to small cubes. Also slice the Onion and keep it ready

Start with Tempering

  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan, Add cumin seeds and allow it to sputter
  • Add bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and peppercorns and sauté in oil

Start making Pulao

  • Then add onion and sauté the onions till translucent. Also add ginger-garlic paste and sauté along with onions
  • Next, we need to add beetroot cubes along with green peas and mix well
  • Add Turmeric Powder, Red Chili Powder & Coriander Powder and mix well
  • Drain the water from soaked rice and add the rice to the pan. Fry the rice for few seconds
  • Then add 2 cups of water along with salt and stir well
  • Bring the water to boil. Then cover the pan with a lid and keep the flame very low and cook for 12-15 mins till the rice is soft but not mushy. Stir gently once in the process of cooking rice and make sure you are not breaking the rice
  • Once the rice is cooked completely, take the delicious Beet Peas Pulao in a serving bowl
  • Serve the delicious Beet Peas Pulao with Onion or Cucumber Raitha and enjoy the rice!

Method to make Beet Pulao with step by step pictures
