Ellu Sadam(Ellodarai) | Til Rice | Sesame Rice is a Prasad we usually prepare in home especially for Lord Vishnu. In tamil calander month Puratasi, Saturday’s are considered auspicious and Ellu sadam is offered to Lord Vishnu to get his blessings. Sesame seeds are in black and white colour. We can use any of these varieties for preparing this rice. But generally for neivedhyam, we use white til. Tempering is also not mandatory for ellu rice. But I have seen many people who do the seasoning. So I have given the tempering version here, but without tempering, we can store the ellu powder in a airtight container and we can mix with rice.

Thank you for sharing this recipe. I am wondering if the sesame can be mixed with rice directly without seasoning for offering to Lord Vishnu, as you had mentioned — is it just sesame+rice or sesame+dhals+rice for nonseasoned offering. I am partly also asking this because I have been asked to avoid heavy spices in general, and I wonder if the Lord will accept the offering. Thank you in advance for ur answer.
Hello Sir. yes we can avoid seasoning. Also adding dals enhances the taste and flavor,so you can add dals. Surely we can offer that to Lord
