Green moong pulao is a protein rich rice enhanced with mild masala. Packed with nutrients this pulao is one of the healthy choice for Kids Lunch box. This tasty one pot rice can be cooked quickly and easily. It can be served with any Raita of your choice.

Green Moong Pulao is a delicious, protein rich rice which is quick and easy to make. We can make pulao with multiple vegetables or with pulses like green moong, chole, chana dal etc., In this pulao, Green moong along with rice is cooked with onion and mild spices to get fluffy and delicious rice. This is loaded with lot of health benefits and also very tasty. This can be served with any Raita of your choice

Tips to make Green Moong Pula

  • Wash and soak moong for atleast 2 hours. This will help the moong to get cooked with rice quickly in 2 whistles.
  • Soak rice for 20 mins so rice gets cooked quickly.
  • While grinding coconut-masala paste add only 2-3 tablespoon of water. We need thick paste hence do not add more water.
  • For 1 cup of moong and 1 cup of rice, we can add 2 cups of water to get fluffy rice
  • Cook for only 2 whistles in high flame and switch off the flame. Allow the pressure to release naturally

  3. Sabut moong dal – No Onion No Garlic Sabut Moong Dal is an excellent protein rich dal which is a very healthy accompaniment for Roti / Naan or even plain steaming rice. This Sabut moong dal is a perfect dish for vrat (fasting) days when we have to exclude onion and garlic.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Green Gram (Pachai Payiru)
  • 1 Cup Raw Rice 1 Cup - 250ml. We can use ponni or sona masoori or basmati rice.
  • 1½ tsp Salt Adjust as needed
  • 1 nos Onion Thinly sliced
  • 1 nos Tomato Roughly chopped
  • 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves
  • 2 Cups Water

For Grinding

  • 3 nos Green Chili
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 1 nos Garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 tbsp Grated Coconut

For Tempering

  • 3 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Fennel Seeds
  • 1 nos Bay Leaf
  • 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 nos Star Anise
  • 3 nos Cloves

Instructions

Soaking

  • Wash and soak the green moong for 2 hours.
  • Wash and soak the rice for 20 mins.

Grinding Masala

  • Take green chili, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic and grated coconut in a mixer jar.
  • Add 2-3 tablespoon of water and grind it to thick paste. Set this masala paste aside.

Tempering

  • Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add fennel seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and cardamom. Give a good mix.

Cooking Pulao

  • Add sliced onions and sauté onions till light brown.
  • Next add chopped tomato and cook tomato till soft.
  • Add ground coconut-masala paste and cook for a minute.
  • Now, add soaked and drained rice. Mix well.
  • Then, add the soaked and drained green moong and give a good mix.
  • Add salt and 2 cups of water to the pressure cooker. Close the pressure cooker with lid and the whistle. Cook in high flame for 2 whistles.
  • Allow the pressure to release naturally. Open the pressure cooker and garnish the Green Gram Pulao with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

Serving

  • Relish the delicious Green Moong Pulao with any raita of your choice!

As we are adding one cup of rice and one one cup of green gram, will two cups of water be enough?

yes as we have already soaked green gram for 2 hours, it will get cooked.
