Khatta Dhokla is fermented and steam savory cake made from rice, urad dal along with yogurt. This is an Instant method of using fermented Idli batter. This would be an easy method, as most of us have Idli batter on hand. Unlike the main ingredient, rest of the other ingredients and procedure are quite similar to Khaman Dhokla. Try this Instant version of Khatta Dhokla. Serve with Green Chutney and enjoy this delicious dish. We can serve this wonderful dish for breakfast or as an evening snack. Even for Kids lunch box, this would be a perfect dish!

Katta Dhokla, a Gujarati savory cake made by steaming fermented batter made of rice and uraddal. We can make this yummy snack with left over idli batter. Idli batter is flavored with green chili, ginger, lemon juice and pepper. Relish this yummy cake with Green chutney!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Idli Batter
  • 1 tablespoon Green Chili- Ginger Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon Juice
  • 1½ tablespoon Oil ½ teaspoon for Greasing
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Eno Salt  If not available use ¼ Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • Coriander Leaves For Garnishing

Instructions 

  • Grease a tray or cake tin with oil and set it aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, take idli batter. Add ginger-green chilli paste, oil, salt and lemon juice and stir well.
  • Just before we plan to steam cook, add eno fruit salt or baking soda and wait till the bubble starts to come. Then stir once gently to combine the batter well. Do not refrigerate the batter after adding eno salt or baking soda.
  • Pour the dhokla in the greased tray. Sprinkle pepper powder and steam cook for 10-12 minutes in high flame or till the skewer comes out clean.
  • Allow the steam cooked Dhokla to cool off completely. The using a bread knife loosen the sides. Keep a plate on top the tray and just flip the plates
  • Cut into desired shapes and serve with green Chutney.
  • The delicious Instant Khatta Dhokla is now ready to serve!
