Is Red Poha more healthier?
Red poha is made from red rice. First the red rice is parboiled, pounded to remove the husk which makes the rice flat. Then the flattened rice flakes are dried, packaged.red rice is not highly processed and retains its bran layer, which makes it healthier than regular white rice. Red rice is rich in fibre, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. The red poha recipes taste no different than the typical poha. So we can use more of red poha in place of the regular white poha as a healthy choice!
Tips for making Special Aval Payasam:
- Red Poha – Try to use red poha (sivappu aval) which gives a nice light pink color to the payasam. If you don’t have red poha use regular white poha. But make sure that the thick variety of the poha is used.
- Whole Milk – Always try to use whole milk for making payasam (kheer).
- Almond Paste – Adding almond paste is optional but this adds richness to the kheer.
- Condensed Milk (Milk Maid) -As we are adding sugar, we are adding only 1/4 cup of condensed milk. If you like, you can skip sugar and add only condensed milk.
- Use broad/bigger Vessel for cooking the milk to avoid overflow of the milk/spill over.
