Vendakaai Varuval (Bhindi / Okra Fry)

Last Updated On: Dec 28, 2017 by Sowmya Venkatachalam

Vendakaai Varuval (Bhindi / Okra Fry), a crispy side dish, Very easy to make. Recently I saw this recipe in a Hindi TV show and immediately planned to do this weekend. Many of the kids and even adults hate Bhindi because of its sticky nature. But this fry is very crispy and everyone will like it. But we are frying it in oil so it is less healthy when compared to usual cooking of bindi. But rarely we can do this and surely everyone in our family will become a great fan of this crispy and scrumptious dish.

Servings 2
Preparation Time 10 mins
Cooking Time 10mins
Ingredients:
Ladysfinger ½ Kg
Turmeric ½ teaspoon
Red Chilli Powder ½ teaspoon
Salt to taste
Chaat Masala Powder ½ teaspoon
Dry Mango Powder(Amachoor) ½ teaspoon
Cumin Powder ½ teaspoon
Gram Flour 2 tablespoon
Method:
  1. Clean each Ladysfinger with a clean cloth and slit it vertically into thin pieces
  2. Take the sliced bindi in a bowl and add red chilli powder, turmeric, cumin powder, amachoor powder, chat masala powder and salt and mix well to coat them evenly in all sliced piece. Leave the marinated bindis for atleast 10mins
  3. After 10 mins the bindis would be nicely marinated with all spice powders
  4. Add besan powder to the marinated bindis
  5. Mix it evenly to coat nicely in each sliced bindi
  6. Heat oil in a pan, when the oil is hot enough,  gently drop the coated ladysfinger one by one so that they are fried nicely in oil and becomes crispy. Keep the flame in medium low so that they dont get burnt as we have sliced the bindis very thin
  7.  Remove the fried and crispy bindi and place it in a paper towel to drain excess oil
  8. The yummy and crispy Vendakaai Varuval (Bhindi / Okra Fry) is ready to serve with any rice or even we can have it as it is... Enjoy a yummy snack and share your experiences..
