Pachai Payaru Sundal | Green Moong Dal Sundal | Green Gram Dal Sundal

Pachai Payaru Sundal is one of the sundal that we make during Navarathri for the God's offering and also distribution to friends and family who are visiting Golu. It's one of the sundal variety which can be made quickly and less planning as the soaking is not mandatory.

Equipment

  • Pressure Cooker
  • Heavy Bottomed Pan

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Green Gram (Pachai Payiru) 1 cup = 250 ml
  • 1 tsp Sundal Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Grated Coconut

For Tempering

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Few Curry leaves
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida (Asafetida / Hing)
  • 1 nos Red Chili

Instructions

  • Soak the Dal for about 2-3 hours.
  • After 2-3 hours strain the water, soak the dal in fresh water, add the salt and pressure cook for 2 whistles. Dal should be cooked till soft but not sticky.
  • Now heat the oil in the pan, and add mustard seeds and when the mustard seeds begins to sputter add red chili, curry leaves and a pinch of hing
  • To this add the cooked PachaiPayiru(Green Moong dhal) and mix it thoroughly
  • Add Sundal Powder and mix gently
  • Finally add the grated cocunut and then mix it well
  • The delicious PachaiPayiru(Green Moong dhal) sundal is ready for neivedhyam for Navrathri as well as for Serving

Notes

  1. You can cook this sundal without soaking as well. Fry the Dal till nice aroma arise. Take them to the pressure cooker and cooker for 4-5 whisltes 
  2. You can skip the sundal powder if you don't have it handy. Add one more Red chili while tempering.
