Sodhi Kuzhambu is one of the popular kuzhambu in Tirunelveli made using coconut milk gravy and vegetables. It goes well with white rice and also as an accompaniment to Idiappam / Idli. In many families it is a popular and a must-serve dish during weddings.

Pressure Cooker

Vegetables
- 1 Potato Peeled, Cubed
- 1 Carrot Roughly Chopped
- 10-12 pieces Beans
- 10 3" pieces Drumstick
- 10-12 Shallots / Baby Onions
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Finely Chopped
Other Ingredients
- ¼ Cup Moong Dal 1 Cup - 250ml
For Grinding
- 1 inch Ginger Finely Chopped
- 8 Green Chili
- 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- 2 Cups Thin Coconut Milk
- 1 Cup Thick Coconut Milk
- 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
- 1.5 teaspoon Salt Adjust As Needed
For Tempering
- 2 tablespoon Coconut Oil
- 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- Few Curry leaves
Making Sodhi
Heat oil in a pan. Add shallots and chopped garlic and sauté till light brown color. Add greenchilli- ginger-cumin seeds paste and saute for 3-4 minutes in low flame
Then, add veggies and stir-fry in high flame for 3-4 minutes. Then, add thin coconut milk and stir once and cover and cook the veggies till they are soft
Once the veggies are cooked, add salt. Add mashed dal and stir well. Cook for 2 minutes
Finally add thick coconut milk and stir once and switch off the flame. Do not bring it to boil after adding thick coconut milk.
Tempering Process
Heat oil in another pan. Add mustard seeds and allow it to sputter. Add curry leaves and sauté for few seconds. Add these seasoning to kuzhambu.
Allow Sodhi kuzhambu to cool for 5 minutes and then add lemon juice and stir well
The delicious Tirunelveli Sodhi ready to serve!
- You can simply use only potato instead of multiple vegetables.
- Adjust spices according to your taste.
