Green Moong Pulao Recipe | Pacha Payaru Pulao Recipe

Green moong pulao is a protein rich rice enhanced with mild masala. Packed with nutrients this pulao is one of the healthy choice for Kids Lunch box. This tasty one pot rice can be cooked quickly and easily. It can be served with any Raita of your choice.

Equipment

  • Mixer Grinder
  • Pressure Cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Green Gram (Pachai Payiru)
  • 1 Cup Raw Rice 1 Cup - 250ml. We can use ponni or sona masoori or basmati rice.
  • teaspoon Salt Adjust as needed
  • 1 nos Onion Thinly sliced
  • 1 nos Tomato Roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander Leaves
  • 2 Cups Water

For Grinding

  • 3 nos Green Chili
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 1 nos Garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 2 tablespoon Grated Coconut

For Tempering

  • 3 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Fennel Seeds
  • 1 nos Bay Leaf
  • 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 nos Star Anise
  • 3 nos Cloves

Instructions

Soaking

  • Wash and soak the green moong for 2 hours.
  • Wash and soak the rice for 20 mins.

Grinding Masala

  • Take green chili, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic and grated coconut in a mixer jar.
  • Add 2-3 tablespoon of water and grind it to thick paste. Set this masala paste aside.

Tempering

  • Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add fennel seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and cardamom. Give a good mix.

Cooking Pulao

  • Add sliced onions and sauté onions till light brown.
  • Next add chopped tomato and cook tomato till soft.
  • Add ground coconut-masala paste and cook for a minute.
  • Now, add soaked and drained rice. Mix well.
  • Then, add the soaked and drained green moong and give a good mix.
  • Add salt and 2 cups of water to the pressure cooker. Close the pressure cooker with lid and the whistle. Cook in high flame for 2 whistles.
  • Allow the pressure to release naturally. Open the pressure cooker and garnish the Green Gram Pulao with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

Serving

  • Relish the delicious Green Moong Pulao with any raita of your choice!
