Sabudana (Jevvarasi) is considered as one the main ingredient which can be used mainly on Vrat / viratham days. During Navratri festivals, it is a tradition to make various dishes using Sabudana like Sabudana Vada, Sabudana Ladoo, Sabudana Payasam and Sabudana Kichadi. Sabudana Laddu is very simple to make just like maladu or rawa laddu. Sabudana Ladoo is one of the quick and and easy to make sweet.

Sabudana ladoo is a traditional sweet that is prepared mainly in North India during the festive seasons and as a part of fastings. The sabudana ladoo is prepared by roasting sabudana and mixed with powdered sugar and made into ladoos.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Javvarasi (Sago / Sabudana)
  • ¾ cup Desiccated Coconut
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • ½ cup Ghee (Clarified butter)
  • 3 nos Cardamom
  • 2 tablespoon Cashews

Instructions 

Frying Sabudana

  • Dry Roast sabudana in low flame in a heavy bottomed pan. Roast it till the sabudana becomes slightly brown in color. Switch off the flame and let the roasted sabudana gets cooled

Grinding Process

  • Once the sabudana is cooled, take it in a mixer jar along with cardamom and grind it to powder. To the powder, add the sugar and again give a pulse or two and make it to a smooth powder and set the powdered sabudana+sugar mixture aside

Enriching with Coconut and Cashews

  • Now again heat the heavy bottomed pan and add the desiccated coconut and roast till the coconut becomes slightly brown color. Take this aside. Then in the same pan, heat a teaspoon of ghee and roast the cashews till golden brown

Making Laddu

  • In a mixing bowl, take the fried coconut, powdered sabudana+sugar, cashews and mix everything together. Heat Ghee and add little by little add it to the laddu mixture.

Serving Time

  • Serve the delicious Sabudana Laddu and enjoy the Sweet!

Recipe card to make Sabudana Ladoo with step by step pictures :

  • Heat a pan, add sabudana and keep the flame low and stir it for atleast 30 minutes
  • After 25-30 minutes, the sabudana has changed its color to light brown. Remove the sabudana from flame and cool it off. Add the cooled sabudana in a mixer and grind it to a smooth powder
  • Again heat the pan, add desiccated coconut and fry in low flame for 2-3 minutes. The coconut doesn't need to become brown. Remove from flame
  • In the meantime, powder the sugar in a mixer
  • Add the powdered sugar, powdered sabudana to the fried desiccated coconut and mix well
  • Heat another pan, add 1 teaspoon of ghee and fry the broken cashews. Add the cashews to the ladoo mixture and mix well. Add rest of the ghee in the pan and heat it for a minute. Remove the ghee from flame and add it to the ladoo mixture and mix well with a spoon
  • When the mixture is warm enough to handle, take half fist full of ladoo mixture and hold it to make a small ball of sabudana ladoo. Repeat this step for rest of the ladoo mixture. The yummy and tasty sabudana ladoo is ready for neivedhyam and also for serving
