Ellu vella podi is a simple neivedhyam on a Navaratri Saturday. We do this for neivedhyam on puratasi saturday also and pray to Lord Vishnu. Even for Navratri festival for Day 3, we make this Yellu vella podi as neivedhyam

Ellu Vella Podi is made using Ellu (Sesame seeds) and Jaggery. A Sweet prasadam for Navarathri and Purattasi Saturdays.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Sesame Seeds 1 cup = 250 ml
  • 1 tbsp Grated Jaggery
  • 1 pinch Cardamom Powder

Instructions 

  • Soak the sesame seeds in water for 10mins
  • Drain the water and heat a pan and dry roast the sesame seeds till it starts to sputter
  • Remove from flame and allow the sesame seeds to cool off
  • Add the roasted sesame seeds to the mixer and grind it to a nice powder
  • Now to the ground yellu(sesame seeds) powder, add the grated jaggery and cardamom and mix well
  • The delicious and simple Yellu Vella Podi(Sesame Seeds jaggery powder) is ready for neivdhyam

Notes

  1. We usually don't use black sesame seeds for the Neivedhyam. If you are using it for consumption then you can also use black sesame seeds.

Method:

My mother and patti used to say Ellu podi is to be made on Saturdays for neivadyam

Hi,
For Puratasi saturday we used to make this as neivedhyam. But very recently I came to know from One of my friend who was very close to Kachi Madam, told me that for Day 3 Neivedhyam we need to do yellu Podi.
