Cauliflower Poriyal | Gobi Masala Curry

A simple to make and mouth-watering Cauliflower Poriyal would be a best accompaniment not only for rice, but also for Roti / Chapati. Sometimes, instead of rich and thick gravies, we need something quick and simple and yet so delicious that would suit both South Indian and NorthIndian cuisines. this Cauliflower Poriyal would be a perfect complement. Even for parties, I bet, this Cauliflower Poriyal (Gobi Masala curry) would be a big hit. Ingredients:
Cauliflower Florets 3 Cups*
Onion 1, Finely chopped
Tomato 1, finely chopped
Turmeric Powder ½ Teaspoon
Coriander Powder 1 Tablespoon
Red Chilli Powder 1 teaspoon
Salt To taste
Coriander Leaves To Taste

* 1 Cup = 250ml



For Seasoning:

Oil 2 Tablespoon
Mustard Seeds 1 Teaspoon
Curry Leaves Few
Ginger 1" Piece, chopped

Method:

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to boil. Add turmeric powder and ½ teaspoon salt and add the cauliflower florets. Switch off the flame and cover and leave it for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, drain the water and set the florets aside
  2. In a pan, heat oil. Add mustard seeds and allow it to sputter. Add teared up curry leaves along with ginger and sauté for few seconds. 
  3. Then, add chopped onions and sauté till translucent. 
  4. Then add chopped tomatoes along with turmeric powder and salt and cook till tomatoes are mushy
  5. Then add blanched cauliflower florets and toss well. Add coriander powder and red chili powder and cover and cook in low flame for 5-7 minutes. Do not over cook as the florets are already blanched. 
  6. Finally garnish with coriander leaves and serve the delicious Cauliflower Poriyal with rice or roti
