Cucumber Dal is one of my favorite dal variety. I like cucumber when we use it in dal or raitha.  My MIL makes cucumber stew with coconut and moongdal and it would tastes so delicious. Cucumber dal is one of the perfect accompaniment for roti / chapati. Even I love to mix paruppu podi with this dal and mix with rice. Instead of making plain dal, cucumber with thoor dal is one of the rich combination. The preparation of the cucumber dal is same as plain dal, so it would be one of the simplest and tastiest dish for any Indian Bread or plain hot steaming rice!.

Tips for making Dosakaya Pappu:

  1. If the dal needs more sourness, we can add lemon juice once it cools down, but if the cucumbers are itself sour, then do not use tomato or lemon.
  2. I made this with onions, we can make this dal no onion no garlic version too.
  3. We can make this as a one pot recipe in pressure cooker and then finally add a fresh tempering.
  4. We can follow the same procedure and make dal with bottle gourd, ridge gourd also.

I tried it this a couple of days back. Easy and fast to make and tastes good. Today substituted cucumber with ridge gourd (peerkangai) and it came out good. Thanks a lot for the recipe.
