Different from conventional Dosa, Maida dosa is an instant dosa and can be made quickly and easily. It's a comfort food, all we need is just to mix Maida with water followed by tadka and we are ready to make dosas.

Maida dosa is one of the variety of dosa which is very instant and doesn’t need soaking of any dals or rice. We all have maida in our home readily and this is one of the simplest and instant dosa recipe, if we don’t have our conventional batter readily available. Maida is not an healthy ingredient but having maida dosa once a while doesn’t harm us. So try this instant dosa and share your comments!

Ingredients

  • 2 cup Maida (All Purpose Flour) 1 cup = 250 ml)
  • 1 cup Rice Flour
  • 1 cup Curd (Plain Yogurt)
  • 1 tsp Salt adjust as needed
  • 2 Green Chilli
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida (Asafetida / Hing)
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 fistful Curry leaves

Instructions 

  • Mix the maida, rice flour along with the butter milk, salt and required water and keep it aside for about 15 mins. Meanwhile, lets get ready with our seasoning. 
  • Heat a tawa and add a spoon of oil. Add cumin seeds, chopped green chillies, hing and curry leaves and stir-fry them for a minute and remove from flame. Add the seasoned ingredients to the maida dosa batter and mix well. 
  • Heat the tawa and pour 1 ladle of batter and spread evenly in the tawa and pour little oil and once one side of the dosa is cooked, turn it on the other side and cook it till the dosa is crisp. Remove the dosa from tawa and repeat the step for rest of the batter
  • Serve the maida flour dosa with Gun powder/Sambar/chutney.

Notes

  1. You can also add onion to the batter to make Onion Maida Dosa
  2. The batter should be watery and we need to make thin dosas.

What is maida called in English… I am in New Zealand and here I find all purpose flour, self raising flour and what not…
