Pachai Payaru Sundal | Green Moong Dal Sundal

Pachai Payaru Sundal is one of the quick and easy sundal variety that we make for Navarathri using Green Moong Dal. We can make both Sweet and Savory version using Pahai Payaru (Green Moong Dal). This recipe is the savory version of the Sundal. This Green moong Sundal (Pachaipayiru Sundal) is also simple to make and it is so healthy and delicious. So protein-rich sundal that would make a healthy evening snack too.

Soaking is Optional but helps

I recommend to soak this dal for 2-3 hours and pressure cook over 2 whistles. However if you are running short of time and have not soaked the sundal, then you can dry fry the sundal for 2-3 minutes and pressure cook over 4-5 whistles.

Sundal Powder enhances the taste

Sundal Powder comes very handy during Navarathri season. We can add a tablespoon of Sundal powder which enhances the flavor and taste of the sundal. If you don't have it handy  then you can just add red chili powder / temper with one more red chili.

Not just for festivals and gods offering, this is also a power packed snack for the kids. It’s protein rich and filling snack. You can serve Pachai Payaru  sundal as a snack with tea or side dish with rice varieties.

Pachai Payaru Sundal is one of the sundal that we make during Navarathri for the God's offering and also distribution to friends and family who are visiting Golu. It's one of the sundal variety which can be made quickly and less planning as the soaking is not mandatory.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Green Gram (Pachai Payiru) 1 cup = 250 ml
  • 1 teaspoon Sundal Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Grated Coconut

For Tempering

  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • Few Curry leaves
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida (Asafetida / Hing)
  • 1 nos Red Chili

Instructions 

  • Soak the Dal for about 2-3 hours.
  • After 2-3 hours strain the water, soak the dal in fresh water, add the salt and pressure cook for 2 whistles. Dal should be cooked till soft but not sticky.
  • Now heat the oil in the pan, and add mustard seeds and when the mustard seeds begins to sputter add red chili, curry leaves and a pinch of hing
  • To this add the cooked PachaiPayiru(Green Moong dhal) and mix it thoroughly
  • Add Sundal Powder and mix gently
  • Finally add the grated cocunut and then mix it well
  • The delicious PachaiPayiru(Green Moong dhal) sundal is ready for neivedhyam for Navrathri as well as for Serving

Notes

  1. You can cook this sundal without soaking as well. Fry the Dal till nice aroma arise. Take them to the pressure cooker and cooker for 4-5 whisltes 
  2. You can skip the sundal powder if you don't have it handy. Add one more Red chili while tempering.

Method to make Green Moong Dal Sundal :
