Palak Paratha Recipe | Spinach Paratha Recipe

Last Updated On: Dec 28, 2017 by Sowmya Venkatachalam

Palak Paratha is a healthy Indian bread made of wheat flour, spinach and mild spices. Many of the kids show aversion to spinach. Everytime, I grind the spinach nicely and make keerai kuzhambu or spinach paratha or spinach vada to make my daughter eat. We should include little spinach in our day to day cooking. Atleast try to use coriander leaves in most of the dishes. The main problem with the kids is they don't like to chew the chopped leaves. So, we can grind it and make a pulp and add it to our dishes. Spinach Paratha is one such yummy and healthy dish. Instead of plain chapati / roti, kids would love this delicious and yummy dish. Lets see how to make this simple and healthy spinach Paratha (Palak Paratha)...

Method:

  1. Wash the spinach nicely twice or thrice to get rid of any sand or dust particles. Its even better to put them in boiling water and rinse it once before cooking. Bring water to boil in a sauce pan. Add the washed spinach along with a pinch of turmeric and allow it to boil for 5-7 minutes. The turmeric will help to sustain the color of the spinach.
  2. Once the spinach is cooked, strain the water and allow it to cool off and then grind it to a nice paste in a mixer. Take a mixing bowl, take the wheat flour along with salt, carom seeds and hing and mix well
  3. Add the spinach paste to the mixing bowl and mix everything well. Sprinkle water little by little and make it a smooth and soft dough. Add 2 teaspoon of oil and again knead the dough and cover the dough with a damp cloth and set it aside for 5-10 minutes
  4. Make lemon sized balls out of the paratha dough. Take a dough ball, dust it with some wheat flour
  5. Roll the dusted dough ball using a rolling pin to a slightly thicker paratha. In the same way roll all the parathas. Heat a tawa, the tawa should be piping hot. Place a paratha on the tawa and allow it to cook till you get small bubbles.
  6. Flip the paratha to the other side and allow it to cook. Apply oil or ghee to both the sides of cooked paratha and then remove from tawa. In the same way, cook the rest of the rolled parathas.
  7. Healthy and yummy Spinach Paratha are now ready to serve! Serve with your favourite gravy or dry curry and enjoy the taste!!!
