Rafa Sheera, a special prasad (offering) made especially on SathyaNarayana Pooja on a Full MoonDay. Roasted Rava is cooked in milk and cooked with sugar and mushed banana and garnished with roasted cashews. This is much similar to our conventional Rava Kesari, but the variation is we are cooking rava in milk for Sheera and also add ripe banana. We can also make this same procedure with cracked wheat instead of sooji. Try this Rava Sheera (Sooji Halwa) and share your experience!
Rava Kesari is one conventional sweet that most of us make very often. Its very quick and easy to make and even beginners won’t go wrong. Same way, we can make Sheera also easily and this Sheera has more flavor than conventional Kesari. The banana added to sheera enhances the whole flavor.
For SathyaNarayana Pooja, we need to make prasad with Sooji, milk, ghee, sugar. One of my friend uses broken wheat and jaggery to make sheera. We can use jaggery with sooji too but we should keep in mind that milk and jaggery won’t go together. We can’t add jaggery to boiling milk. So if you plan to use jaggery, then use boiling water to cook the sooji.

Other Kesari varieties to try:

1. Wheat Flour Kesari
2. Pineapple Kesari
3. Aval Kesari
4. Mango Kesari
5. Semiya Kesari

  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom Powder
  • 1 Banana Thinly Sliced
  • 1 tbsp Cashew

Instructions

  • Add a teaspoon of ghee. Add sooji and roast till we get a nice aroma. Take this roasted sooji aside
  • Add a tablespoon of ghee and add cashews and roast till light brown. Add banana pieces and saute till it turns mushy. Take the cashews and mushy banana aside
  • Add boiled milk to the pan and bring it to boil. When the milk starts to boil, add roasted sooji and stir continuously.
  • The milk will get absorbed and sooji will get cooked. Add Sugar and stir well. This will dilute the mixture. Do not panic. Soon the mixture gets thicken up
  • Add cardamom powder, roasted cashews and mushy banana and stir well. Keep in low flame till the mixture becomes thick

Notes

  1. When we add semolina to boiling milk, we need to stir continuously to avoid lumps
  2. Even if you buy roasted rava from store, we need to again roast it in ghee that will ensure rava to cook properly without becoming sticky
  3. Add saffron to get a nice natural color to the sheera
