Sweet Pachadi is one of the integral part of South Indian Thali especially Tamilnadu Lunch Platter. It is a traditional pachadi served in banana leaf during auspicious events like marriages. There is a procedure in serving dishes in a banana leaf. We start with payasam, then we proceed with salt and sweet Pachadi then followed by poriyal and kootu. Sweet Pachadi can be made just with tomato or beetroot puree. Tomato puree or beetroot puree is usually cooked with sugar to make a thick syrup like consistency. Instead of plain sweet pachadi, we can enhance the pachadi by adding mixed fruits. Fruits have  sugar in themselves which are added to sugar syrup to make it much more interesting.

There are 2 ways to make Mixed Fruits Sweet Pachadi

  1. We can make a sugar syrup with one string consistency and then add the mixed fruits, mix well and serve.
  2. We first prepare tomato sweet pachadi (with tomato puree or beetroot puree) and then toss the mixed fruits. In this recipe we are making sweet pachadi with tomato puree and mixed fruits.

Tips for making Mixed Fruits Sweet pachadi:

  1. Wash the tomatoes thoroughly and grind it to a smooth paste. We need clear tomato juice so pass it through the strainer to make sure we have clear tomato juice.
  2. Instead of tomato, we can use beetroot also. We can either grind the beetroot or we can grate and cook with sugar syrup.
  3. Cook the tomato and sugar together till you get a thick sticky syrup like consistency.
  4. Mixed fruits are our choice. I have used mango, apple, banana, grapes, dates, raisins and cashews. I didn't have pineapple so added pineapple essence. You can add cubed melon, pineapple, pear etc.
  5. Allow the fruits to sit in the tomato-sugar syrup for about 1 hour. The syrup needs some time to seep into the fruits and get incorporated.
  6. Store in air-tight container and refrigerate to have a longer shelf life. We can use it for upto one week.
