Akki roti is a rice-based breakfast item unique to the state of Karnataka, India. Akki rotti means "rice bread" in the native language, Kannada. It is made of rice flour which is mixed with salt and water and kneaded well till the dough gets soft. Soft-n-crispy flatbread made with rice flour, grated carrot, onion and basic Indian spices. Very tasty and easy to make roti. Try this Akki roti and you will surely love it.

Akki Roti Recipe | Rice Flour Roti Recipe

Akki Roti (Rice Bread), Soft-n-crispy flatbread made with rice flour, grated carrot, onion and basic Indian spices. Very tasty and easy to make roti.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Rice Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Green Chili
  • 2 tablespoon Grated Coconut
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Grated
  • ¼ Cup Carrot Grated
  • 1 Onion Finely Chopped
  • ¼ Cup Coriander Leaves Finely Chopped
  • Salt As Needed
  • Oil for Cooking Roti + Greasing

Instructions 

  • Take a mixing bowl. Add rice flour, cumin seeds, salt, green chili, grated coconut, grated ginger, grated carrot, onions and coriander leaves and mix everything well
  • Add water little by little and knead it to a smooth dough
  • Set this dough aside for 15 mins. After 15 minutes, take the dough and make 4 equal sized balls out of the dough
  • Take a parchment paper / aluminum foil / banana leaf and grease it with oil
  • Keep the dough ball on the greased paper. Damp your fingers and gently start spreading the dough to make a thin roti. 
  • Heat a tawa to cook the spreader roti. When the tawa is medium hot, gently flip the parchment paper on the tawa and leave 2 seconds and then gently peel the parchment paper so that the roti stays in the tawa
  • Add a teaspoon of oil and cook the roti. Then flip and cook the roti on the other side
  • Repeat the steps 5-7 for the rest of the dough balls
  • The yummy and tasty Akki roti is ready to serve!

Notes

  1. The rice dough should be soft and sticky that will help us to spread to thin roti
  2. We can use banana leaf or parchment paper to spread the akki roti
  3. We can also add cooked and mashed rice to the rice flour and knead it to dough
