Ingredients

  • 6 Nos Sweet Potato
  • 1 teaspoon Salt As Needed
  • 2 Cups Oil For Frying

Instructions

  • Wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly. Peel each sweet potato and discard the edges.
  • Slice the sweet potatoes to thin slices and soak it in water so avoid de-colorisation
  • Once all the potatoes are sliced, drain the water. Take fresh water in a sauce pan and add salt and stir well
  • Add the sliced sweet potatoes and let it sit for 30mins
  • After 30 mins, drain the water and wash the slices thoroughly
  • Heat oil in a pan for deep frying the sweet potato slices. When the oil is hot, add a slice to test if it sizzles right away. Then, add 1 handful of slices in one batch. Do not add the slices as a cluster. Separate each slice and add it to oil. Also do not add more slices in each batch. Give room for the slices to deep fry in oil till the sound and bubble ceases.
  • Keep the flame in medium while frying the slices. Cooking in medium flame makes the slices more crisper. If you keep the flame high, then the sweet potato slices will become dark brown soon but the chips wouldn’t be crispier. So deep fry in medium flame to get nice crunchy sweet Potato chips. Take out the fried chips and place it in paper towel to drain excess oil
  • Store the Sweet Potato Chips in air-tight container and enjoy the homemade snack!

Notes

    1. If you have Oven, you can pre-heat at 250º F (120º C) and place the prepared sweet potato pieces in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 2 hours, flipping chips once at halfway point to ensure even cooking.
    2. Initially after deep frying or baking, the chips may seem less crispy, but if we leave it for 10 mins, it will eventually becomes crispier
    3. Chips burn so easily, so if you are deep frying, keep the flame very low and deep fry them. If you bake, then keep a watch and flip them half the way and make sure they are not burnt.
