Cabbage Poriyal is a traditional South Indian stir-fy made with shredded or chopped cabbage with simple tempering. Sturdy, abundant and inexpensive, cabbage is a longstanding dietary staple throughout the world and is so widely cultivated and stores so well that it is available throughout the year. In South India cabbage is cooked in many different ways and one such common recipe is Cabbage Poriyal. We can make plain poriyal using cabbage but adding peas enhances the taste. Peas and cabbage goes very well hence I always prefer to add peas in cabbage poriyal.
Variations & Tips :
- You can add Moong dal also to the poriyal. Cook Moong dal separately and add it with the poriyal
- You can also add Onion into the poriyal. Add the onion after tempering and allow them to cook. Then add cabbage.
- While cooking the cabbage, do not add more water. Just sprinkle the water. While cooking cabbage also releases some water/moisture which is good enough to cook the cabbage.
