Idli Tikka, a mouth-watering snack made using mini idli marinated in curd along with spices and vegetables which are then inserted in a skewer and grilled or cooked on tawa to get delicious tikka. Most of us make Paneer tikka very often. Even for some parties or get-together Paneer tikka is served as starter. Instead of paneer, we can use steamed idli. Fluffy idli's absorbs the marination mixture nicely and once cooked, the idli's taste so awesome.

Normally we serve Idli with Sambar, Chutney or Idli podi. Conventional serving often makes us feel bored especially for kids. We can try making this tikka and see how they fall in love with idli. Since the marination itself will have all spices and salt incorporated we don't need any side dish for this tikka. If we liked we can relish with Ketchup or green chutney.

Tips for making Idli Tikka:

  1. Its not mandatory to only use mini ildi. We can very well use regular idli, cut into cubes and marinate it.
  2. Along with spice powder, we can also use ginger-garlic paste.
  3. We need to be cautious while adding salt. Both the idli and also the ketchup will have some salt in in. So we need to add very little for the rest of the spices.
  4. Along with veggies, we can also add pineapple slices.
  5. Let the marination set aside atleast for 20 mins. The spices needs time to seep through the idli and the vegetables then only we can enjoy every bit of the masalas.
  6. I have used a tawa to cook the tikka skewers. If you have a grill, you can cook on that.
  7. Cook tikka in low flame making sure to flip on all sides regularly to ensure uniform cooking without getting burnt.
